The city is rendered as a tourist’s fantasy: perpetual sunlight, swooping aerial shots of Sugarloaf Mountain, and a Carnival that explodes into a dance number featuring every animated character. The favelas are briefly glimpsed as colorful hillside clutter, their social and political realities—violence, poverty, state neglect—erased in favor of aesthetic charm.
